Twoy-wees

Twoy-wees is how her Royal Higness asks for curlies in her hair! I honored her request this last Sunday, since I had turned her down several times the week previous. Here is what we ended up with! A sweet little girl who is all about being a girly-girl!

The dress is one I made for her birthday last year and I'm so happy that it still fits her! I made several attemps at smocking and never hand pleated the fabric tight enough to make it work. I finally went and found a small checked gingham to help with a tight pleat and it made a world of difference. I enjoy smocking and I hope to have the chance to do some more smocking, but I hope I'm not limited to gingham fabrics for the rest of her royal toddler-hood!

The Happy Little Girl!

Here is the picture of a happy little girl!She is a happy little girl because her mommy made a giraffe Jumper for her to wear!
She is extra happy since it is made out of polar fleece and adds a little extra warmth during this season of extreme cold!

She thinks her mommy is pretty clever to use the thrifted, sweet little vintage giraffe applique pattern and give it a modern adaptation!

Now, if anyone complains about my cookin' I'll just point them to the blue ribbons that will be hanging on my kitchen wall and tell them that its their problem that their palette isn't refined enough to appreciate it!!

Build a Critter Workshop

So, today, we SERIOUSLY needed to break out of our usual routines of chaos and we opted for a rather unusual activity.

First, a disclaimer in behalf of the crew: "We aren't a bunch of sissy boys that snuggle with softies at bedtime."

Here are the kid rules:

Clean your bedroom.

Draw a critter and have fun drawing your critter.

NO critters from video games or TV/Movies this must ultimately be your creation.

Go easy on details.

Here are the Mom rules:

No pink.

Let the kids choose the colors even though you think you have better taste than they do.

Don't grumble when trying to turn the itty bitty chicken toes right side out.

These guys had so much fun seeing their designs go from paper to all dimensional!

Here is a closer shot of the President's Hand Chicken. It was cracking me up the whole time I was working on it (except for those little pointy toes that are hiding in the grass)! She and the duck are done up in a stash of vintage fabrics that I've thrifted around the area here. Of course, nothing in this house is drama free now that her Royal Highness has been keeping up with all of the excitement. She kept on stealing the President's Chicken and squealing as she ran into her bedroom with it. (She has a mouthful of Candy)!

She didn't design her own critter, but I made a few of my own for her when Christine came to visit for the 4th of July! We made a few of these fun dollies together and stayed up until 1:00 am stitching details by hand and watching Jane Eyre (SO well done by masterpiece theatre).


Here is the Dolly that started it all. She is my prototype for a gift that I wanted to make for my brother Doug's little girl, Emmaliegh, on her first birthday. Her name is Lucy and she has been LOVED!

My Saturday Fun

I decided that today I was going to do what I wanted to do... So I got out the sewing machine and made this little Origami Bag. http://www.haibao.cn/article/71032.htm This tutorial isn't in english but the pictures are all there. It took me a second to figure out how to get to the rest of the pictures in the tutorial - under the last picture are little boxes with numbers 1-5 on them. Click on those ;)

I'm posting my finished product, but I apologize for the blurry picture - there wasn't much light when I took it. But you get the idea - this went together really quickly and easily!! Wow - I actually accomplished something!
